About our lab

Our group conducts research on how climate change threatens human and animal health. We use a mix of tools from epidemiology, ecology, climatology, data science, and policy analysis.

Our big questions right now are:

  • How much of the global burden of infectious disease is attributable to human-caused climate change?

  • Are the climate crisis and pandemic risk connected problems?

  • Can we use machine learning to understand drivers of disease emergence and predict future hotspots of pandemic risk?

Opportunities

Interested in joining the group? Check below (updated 6/30/23):

  • Specific opportunities: No funded positions are currently open. Please check back soon for news on new funded projects!

General guidance: I’m eager to sponsor applications for other programs, such as the NSF PRFB or NIH K99/R00; please reach out with a C.V., copies of a couple publications you see as representative of your interests, a brief description of your research interests and how they fit our group, and a short paragraph on the shape of a potential project proposal.

  • There are currently no openings for Ph.D. positions in the lab (including through the Global Infectious Diseases program). Please check back next year, or look at some similar labs at Georgetown!

  • The Verena Fellows-in-Residence competitive award program that gives postdoctoral fellows or ambitious Ph.D. students a short-term opportunity to remotely participate in the Verena Institute while employed by a lab outside of the Institute. Candidates submit a one-page project proposal developed in partnership with an Institute faculty member, and are expected to work together towards at least one peer-reviewed publication (with separate financial support available for publication fees). Applications are currently closed for Spring 2023, and will reopen in a few months for Fall 2023. More details here.
